NBA Trading Cards: Sets, Rookies & Box Types
Since the 2025-26 season, Topps produces the officially licensed NBA cards again, led by Topps Chrome Basketball with a 299-card base set of rookies, veterans and legends. Panini held the NBA license until 2024-25, so sealed Panini boxes such as Prizm and Donruss Optic from earlier seasons remain popular, and Panini continues with its own basketball releases.
The key basketball sets
- Topps Chrome Basketball 2025-26: the return of Chrome to the NBA, with refractor parallels and one autograph per hobby box.
- Topps Chrome Updates: the update set of the season, with X-Fractors and the first Rookie Debut Patch Autographs in Topps basketball.
- Topps Hoops: the accessible set with a 300-card base checklist, ideal to start.
- Panini Prizm Basketball: the Prizm rainbow, in 2025-26 with legends, rookies and college prospects and three autographs per hobby box.
- Donruss Optic 2024-25: 300 cards including 50 Rated Rookies, with one autograph per hobby box.
The 2025-26 rookie class
Each season, the new draft class is the main chase. The 2025-26 class is led by number-one pick Cooper Flagg, and the first cards of the top picks appear in the new Topps basketball sets, while Panini Prizm Basketball features rookies such as VJ Edgecombe. Look for rookie autographs, RPAs (rookie patch autographs), refractors and low-numbered parallels.
Hobby, mega or value box?
- Hobby box: guaranteed autographs, for example one in Topps Chrome Basketball and three in Panini Prizm Basketball 2025-26.
- Mega box: fewer cards, but exclusive parallels such as the X-Fractors in Chrome Updates.
- Value or blaster box: the affordable way in, such as Topps Hoops value blasters or Prizm Basketball blasters with Pulsar parallels.
